Coronavirus

Corona Virus Information

We realise that this is a difficult and worrying time for many families. We also appreciate that self isolation may cause difficulties to families with their work and other responsibilities. However, please be aware that we are following advice from the Government and HPE England and any child who has a cough or temperature will be sent home and be expected to be in self isolation along with their family for 14 days. It is vital for the health of all of our community that we all follow this advice, so please if you are asked to collect a child, respect that we are following advice from health and Government professionals and be polite and respectful to the staff who pass on that message and are working under tremendous pressure to ensure the health and well being of everyone in our wider community and schools.

Please note that we continue to follow advice from the Department for Education and Public Health England and receive daily email updates. The safety of our children, families and staff is extremely important to us but unless we have a direct instruction to close, the school will remain open as usual. We would inform you as always via text and email if this instruction was given.

In the meantime, please follow advice yourselves on the NHS websites and other websites, such as Norfolk County Council. Please ensure your child is able to wash their hands effectively, this is something we are talking to them about in school also. Please do refer to the information and websites below for more information.

Coronavirus - what you need to know!

You can help to slow the spread of Coronavirus!

  • Make sure you and your children follow these general principles to prevent spreading any respiratory virus:
  • Wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or an alcohol-based sanitiser if soap and water aren’t available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • If you feel unwell, stay at home and don’t attend work or school.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home.
  • If you’re worried about your symptoms, please call NHS 111 – don’t go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment.

Department for Education Coronavirus helpline - this helpline has been set up to answer questions about the virus related to education. Staff, parents and young people can contact the helpline.

What does self-isolating mean?

If you have been told to self-isolate, you need to stay indoors and avoid contact with other people for 14 days. The guidance issued on the 16th March says that if anyone in your family has to self isolate, the whole family should do this and not leave the house or have people to visit.

if you live with others and you or another member of the household have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

for anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14-day isolation period.

It is important to follow the advice for the whole period, even if you do not have any symptoms.

Do

  • stay at home
  • separate yourself from other people – for example, try not to be in the same room as other people at the same time
  • only allow people who live with you to stay
  • stay in a well-ventilated room with a window that can be opened
  • ask friends, family members or delivery services to carry out errands for you, such as getting groceries, medicines or other shopping
  • make sure you tell delivery drivers to leave items outside for collection if you order online
  • clean toilets and bathrooms regularly
  • think about a bathroom rota if a separate bathroom is not available, with the isolated person using the facilities last, before thoroughly cleaning the bathroom themselves
  • use separate towels from anyone else in the household
  • wash crockery and utensils thoroughly with soap and water; dishwashers may be used to clean crockery and cutlery
  • stay away from your pets – if unavoidable, wash your hands before and after contact

Don't

  • do not invite visitors to your home or allow visitors to enter
  • do not go to work, school or public areas
  • do not use public transport like buses, trains, tubes or taxis
  • do not share dishes, drinking glasses, cups, eating utensils, towels, bedding or other items with other people in your home

Live streaming of the Scar Gatherer Series

Julia Edwards is streaming readings of The Scar Gatherer series on https://www.facebook.com/scargatherer.co.uk/, beginning with chapter one of The Leopard in the Golden Cage which was posted on the 19th March 2020. She plans to stream a chapter every weekday and post it to the page, so that children whose families are self-isolating can watch for half an hour and be entertained (whilst quietly learning a bit of history). When she finishes streaming the first book, if there is interest, she will carry on through the rest of the series.

The videos are streamed live, and she plans to do this at about the same time each day so that children could join live.  If they don't or can't watch it live, the video posts will stay on the Facebook page for the foreseeable future, and they can add questions in the comments which she can answer on the next video post.

To watch, or to recommend to others, please go to https://www.facebook.com/scargatherer.co.uk/.To go straight to the first chapter of The Leopard in the Golden Cage, click here.
